Hawaiian ale with fruity aromas of maracuja and passion fruit
The Kona Big Wave is an ale type beer. The makers of the Kona Brewery in Hawaii were inspired by the huge waves off their coast, which inspire surfers.
Maybe you know the age-old hit "There is no beer in Hawaii". The song is a real hit and a joke - but it's wrong. Because Hawai doesn't just have beer, there is even one of the most successful craft beer breweries in the world.
In 1994, Cameron Healy and his son founded a brewery and named it after Kona, the sunny district in the western region of Hawaii. Kailua-Kona has shops, restaurants and nightlife - and of course the beach and waves.
Especially in the winter months you can marvel at gigantic waves there. The Kona Brewery wanted to create a monument to its legendary waves and therefore called their ale Big Wave.
The drink is wonderfully refreshing and tangy. It pampers the taste buds with fruity aromas of maracuja and passion fruit, light notes of herbs and a tropical hop aroma.
The ale has an alcohol content of 4.4 percent and its color is a fine gold tone. Manufacturers use caramel malt, which adds to the golden hue of this beer.
It goes perfectly with seafood, poultry, salads and light pasta dishes. Of course, you can also enjoy it in between, either in good company or simply to quench your thirst.
