The traditional Old Tom Gin from Distillery Studer in Lucerne

The history of the Swiss Highland Old Tom Gin can be traced back to the year 1888, when the distillery founder Robert Studer traveled to England to be inspired by the gin manufacturers there. With this special type of juniper brandy, the distillate is additionally sweetened, which wonderfully underlines the herbal aromas. This specialty from Escholzmatt can be enjoyed pure or in a gin and tonic.

After the distillery's Swiss Highland Dry Gin was a complete success, the Studer family decided to keep looking for exciting recipes and new flavors. They found what they were looking for in a recipe for Old Tom Gin, a sweetened variant of juniper brandy, which is over a hundred years old. Botanicals are also used here for the production, including juniper, lavender, lemongrass and ginger. Blackberries are still added as a special ingredient. Even in the nose, the Studer's Swiss Highland Old Tom Gin is extremely complex and exciting. There are notes of blackberries, juniper and herbs. In the mouth, too, fruity and sweet aromas of blackberries dominate, paired with a pleasant spice of juniper and coriander. There is also a slight freshness of citrus. In the finish, the blackberries are left over and the distillate says goodbye to freshly cut ginger with a slight spiciness.
