The Zurich gin with a wood finish.

The Wood Barreled Edition of Turicum Gin shows in an impressive way how a gin can be refined in a barrel for a few weeks.

The Turicum Gin from Zurich is refined and flavored with a total of 12 different botanicals. In addition to the usual suspects, these include exotic herbs and spices such as pine tips, Madagascar pepper, rose hips and linden blossoms.

In order to make the taste experience even more extravagant, the distillate matures for a few weeks in the heart of Zurich in barrels together with oak, sandalwood and cedar wood. This storage naturally leaves its mark, and so the Wood Barreled Edition comes into the glass in a deep amber color. In the stored version, the taste of herbs, flowers, spices and fruits is complemented by notes of vanilla and cocoa.

The brains behind the Zurich juniper distillate are the two partners Oliver Honegger and Merlin Kofler, who, after visiting England in 2013, decided to produce a gin themselves. Together with their friends Oscar Martin and Philip Angst, they worked on a recipe and presented their product for the first time in 2015. It was particularly important to them that it should be a real Zurich gin, and so most of the botanicals are sourced directly from the area.

The name “Turicum” also alludes to the name of the ancient Roman city that once stood on the site of today's Zurich. The concept is well received and the distillate has already won numerous awards.
